Peter is an experienced investigator, interviewer and trained negotiator. He served for 20 years with the New South Wales Police Force, reaching the rank of Detective Sergeant. In that role, he led and supervised major crime investigations and gained extensive experience in evidence collection and assessment, procedural fairness, decision-making under pressure, and managing complex and sensitive matters.

During his policing career, Peter also worked as a senior police negotiator and completed an Advanced Diploma of Police Negotiation. His negotiation experience extended across serious and high-risk incidents, including hostage and siege situations, barricaded persons, incidents involving people in crisis and counter-terrorism operations. He also negotiated in public order and protest contexts, including with issue-motivated groups and members of the public, where the role required police to reach workable agreements about how, where, and when certain activities could occur while managing safety, legal, and operational risks. This experience developed Peter’s ability to build rapport quickly, manage heightened emotions, assess risk in real time, and use structured communication to guide difficult situations toward safer, more constructive outcomes.
